Well… We finally got through another Live Gig on the past 1st June. It was an event organised by Rui call ” SHOW! Singapore Chinese Rock”. Like the name suggest, it’s an event that brings together a couple of local chinese bands to showcase their music. We were invited by Rui to play on the 1st June Show, which was held at HOME CLUB. Its been a year since our last gig done in Gashaus. I guess this opportunity comes timely.

Rui inform us around early April regarding the gig and we started perparing straight away. We initially wanted to play 8 songs, mixture of originals and covers. But due to the time slot alocated to us on the gig is only 30min, we had to cut down one song. Our perparation went pretty smoothly and we were all getting excited as the date grew near. Still at the same time we felt worried. I for one got pretty worried about having stage fright, but deep down I knew I should be able to overcome it.

We started to rally our friends to come down to see us perform. We hope we could have at least around the same number of turnout as last year. being only having so few gig experience, we really needed the support of friends to be there for us.

On the day itself, We have a final jam session with Alfe before heading down to HOME CLUB for soundcheck. When we reached there, we realised they just had a video shoot at the club and were just putting things back into place! They took a long time to reset everything. Even longer time to set back the stage equipment. As we are the first band to play we are last to soundcheck. The other bands took a very long time to soundcheck. In the end we could not have a proper soundcheck due to time. We were then ask to cut down our song list as we are running late. Feeling disappointed, we removed another song, a song that I wish to play. Well I guess have to wait till the next gig to play that song ba.

The soundman that night was really bad. He really didn’t know what he was doing. That’s the worst nightmare for bands at a gig. real sad we kanna this lousy soundman. luckily the sound from the video recorded sounds ok. But we had a hard time controling our sound on stage. I guess these are things we have to learn to deal with.

In the end I think we did well enough ba. Yeah we had some mistake playing, but overall we give a better performance compare to the one last year. The turnout was great! We are able to rally down around 50 friends to support us. Our Secondary School classmates came down too!! Thanks guys , U guys are the greatest !!! Thanks everyone!!!!

Thankz for the help of Sam, Ryan , Anne for helping us with the video and photos!!! Owe U guys one!!!! Really need to thankx Alfe for his help, not just for drums but so much more….!!! thank you!!!

And of cos… we have to thanks Rui for giving us the chance to play. Thankx!!

Our 3rd Gig

July 21, 2007

Its been a while since our last gig in 2005. We have been jamming on and off since that gig and also did a little recording of our song “My World” at Alfe’s place. And during that period of time a couple of new songs was completed. So after some discussion we decide to do a gig for friends. At first we were just planning to have a simple gig in the Recreation Room at my poolside, but after some planning the gig seems to have blown up to a full scale gig! And things just got a little more exciting and challenging at the same time.

With the help from Alfe, we secured a weekday night to perform at Gasshaus(RED BAR). The whole band then sat down a discuss what we should do to make the gig a success.Everyone gave their best and work hard. Finally on 17th May 07, we did our 3 gig. We were all nervous, as this was consider our fist gig. initially we worried about the turnout, but that worry was soon dismissed as our friends roll in to the venue. We had quite a decent turn out for a band that have not been heard. We had around 60+ turnout that was there to support us!! Thank guys!!!

As arranged, we had the help of Mervyn and Chamaine , along with Alfe, to  play a set before we start. Alfe was playing acoustic guitar with Mervyn on bass and Chamaine on vocal. They did a few songs. We are so tahnkful to Alfe as he have to play with both bands. They played well, and soon its was our turn to play.

779008130l_1 Even though we have lots of practices, we still can’t shake the feeling of nervousness when we went up the stage. This was afterall the offical first time we Perform together. The first 2 gig was either without 903492158l_1 Alfe or Ray. But I think we did good enough. We played 9 songs in total with a good mix of our originals and cover songs. After the gig we had some good comments from our friends. Everyone that came seems to have a good time. Just that the sound for the venue wasn’t very kind to us. Our playing levels won’t controlled very well. The lightings was close to none and most of the time we are hardly visible. I guess we don’t have much control of such things at the moment. haha..unless we hire a good soundman and lighting technican. Overall it was 430161262l_1still a good performance ba… :-)

We had most of the gig recorded and 958029994l_1uploaded onto youtube. They clips are a bit dim to view, but the songs can still be heard claering.

We will be looking towards our next performance. We hope it will be soon. At the mean time we will continue to work hard to improve ourselves so as to perform better in the next gig.659861142l_1

Like to thankx Sam, Anne and Ryan for their support and help. The videos and photos were great!!!! Thanks!!!

Our 2nd Gig(2005)

December 6, 2005

It took a long time for us to land ourselves on this second gig. Its nearly 5 years ago when we did our first gig. Some changes have taken place during these few years, and we have all become better. We had gotten back together in Mid 2004 after our year long break and was planning to do recordings of some of our songs. That was when Rod ask us if we wanted to do a performance gig during his company’s upcoming D&D. We decided to give it a try since we have about 3 months to prepare for the performance on 18th March2005.

With Alfe helping us, we gotten ourselves ready to perform 3 songs.  We have chosen a few our songs to play which include "My World", "Friends", "Faraway Paradise" and a Mayday covesong "Tenderness".

It was at the beiginning of March that Ray confirm that he could not play with on this D&D gig due to his reservist. We panic as the performance was already confirm and we couldn’t back out from the gig at such short notice. We finally got a friend of ours, Leslie, to stand in for Ray for this gig. It really sadden us all as Ray couldn’t play with us, but the show must go on. With very little time on hand  Ray quickly taught Leslie his guitar part. We had a couple of practice session in the studio, and that was it.

We arrived early at the venue with was in Suntec. The setup and sound check was supposed to be at 11am and rehersal was at 3pm. Everything went rather smoothly and we were all ready and waiting to perform that evening. It was during the short rehersal that I realised how big the place was! The stage was ok size but its in a very big BALLROOM, 3 conbine ballrooms to be exact. We were performing to a thousand pack crowd! We suddenly felt uneasy. Our last gig we only played to max 60-70 people. This time round its like more than 10 times the crowd. Alfe being a experience drummer and have played tons of gig try to calm us down. Leslie have also played a couple of gigs in the past too, so guess he is ok too.

Finally the D&D started. The host of the show was The Flying Dutchman from Class 95. His stage presence is very good. Almost imediately captured the crowd’s attention once he dawn the stage. The dinner was also served. After some games and competiton, it was almost time for us to perform.

There was a group preforming a song before us. The group was made up of 5 singiers, lead by their department incharge. They sang a song with was written by the incharge. They even have a Animated MTV made for the song. LioncitybandThe song’s rather nice and catchy. We were all rather amused by the song. Cute song, but definately not the kind of song that we will ever write. Though it would be fun to watch the group perform song, we were just nervious getting ready to go up next. With the song coming to end, we put our hands together and Alfe said some final words of encouragement, and we were ready to perform.

Nervous, but at the same time also fill with joy we went up the side performance stage and played our second gig. We played 2 songs in total due to time constrain. We played "My World" first. Believe we did well for the song. The second song we did was "Faraway Paradise" We miss a few notes but over all we did good too on that song. Like in a flash… our second gig was over. Short 2 songs performance, but it really was quite an experience. The feeling to be up on the stage playing to a thousand crowd is really something. We were all happy about this gig and really hope there will be another chance for us to perform again.

I have never thought that we could have the ability to perform a live gig this soon.. But this dream was make possible when Rayson suggested we do a band performance at the Birthday Party of his friend, Clara. This was a suggestion that excited the whole band. Everyone wish to do it, but we also worried that we might not be able to achieve this task as we were still not that well verse at our jamming. After discussing among members, we decided to go ahead with the gig. With only about a month time to the performing night, we were at a rush for time as we need as much studio practices as possible to brush up on our songs.

This is our band’s ever first live performance. Everyone spend a lot of time and effort, especially Rayson and Alfie, to make this event successful. They are the 2 guys that arranged all the studio practice sessions. Rayson  have to talk to the boss of the  pub and ask for the approval for our performance. He is also  in charge of renting of drum sets and other required instruments. Rayson is a very busy man for this gig.

When comes to songs selection, the whole band sat down and came up with the best  song list possible. The songs that we perform that night were a mixture of both chinese and english compositions. All the songs are original works by our band. The only song that was a cover is "Deliberate"  by Beyond.  The arrangement for this cantonese song was redone by us so as not to sound totally like the original.

Within a months time of practice sessions, we revise and brush up all the performing songs. We jam almost 2 times a week, sometime even 3 per week to buck up on our timing in songs and more importantly, our co-ordinations. It was a rather tiring and time consuming, not to mention burning a big hole in our pockets. But all are willing to give up the time and money just to make this gig better. It was worth it.

On the day of the performance Rayson, Alfie and Rodney went down to the pub early to help setup the staging area, getting it ready for the drums set and instrument to arrive. I came with the sound system, sponsored by H3 Integrations, for the night. Everything for the night’s performance was done by the band itself. With all the equipment setup, we were ready to go. The only things unset were probably our jumpy hearts.

Friends started showing up at about 6:45pm, and with the arrival of the Guest Of Honour, the Birthday Gal Clara, we started our very first debut performance. We have split the songs into 2 sets. The 1st set was a slower, more ballad type that are easy for the ears. The 2nd set was fast beat. We call it the Rock Segment of the gig where we performed our fast rock songs. In it we played the band’s ever first rock style song " Regretted Love". But the song that really impress the crowd I guess would be " Faraway Paradise". We saw some friends rocking there heads to the song.Falive14_2 Falive16_4

Over all the performance was a good one, although we do face a few problems. We couldn’t really get the sound we want and also we couldn’t hear our playing which made it hard for us to play. But on a whole it was a good performance. Very good experience for the band and we all learn a lot from it. We are looking forward to the next live gig. We don’t know when, we don’t know where. But we will keep on going till the next one comes. We really thanks all the friends that were there. and also hope Clara had a wonderful Birthday Party.

We could not have done this gig without the help of Boon Studio, H3 Integrations, The pub’s owner, and Clara for giving us the excuse and chance to do this debut gig. Thankx for everything.Falive1   Falive12_1  Falive13
